THE CHALLENGE
The dairy sector is critical as milk and milk products are the most important source of protein in India. However by 2020, India will go from being a net net exporter to a net importer of milk with domestic demand exceeding supply.
MILK DEFICIT
CHALLENGE 01
The deficit in projected requirement of milk of 126 mmt by 2020/21 means we need to nearly double our current domestic milk production.
Lowest Productivity
CHALLENGE 02
Although India is the largest producer of milk in the world, the country has one of the lowest productivity rates per animal per day. There exists a big potential to improve our productivity
Burgeoning Middle Class
CHALLENGE 03
With rise in disposable incomes resulting from the burgeoning middle class, the per capita consumption of milk and milk products is set to rise dramatically. To help meet this demand, milk production will also need to keep up.
THE SOLUTION
Produce more

A simple solution is to produce more milk without placing additional pressure on our finite natural resources. In this case, the solution is the ‘right genetics’ for Indian conditions. The ‘right genetics’ will result in higher productivity rates per animal and a more sustainable future for our farmers, helping them secure prosperity.
